While some people might collect stamps, sports cards, coins, action figures or comic books, apparently I collect pencils... I currently have somewhere in the range of 45. Yes, that might seem excessive, and yes, I have more than I need! So how on earth did I gain so many?
Well, for one thing, I have a wide variety of pencils which are used for a wide variety of drawings and techniques. I have black charcoal pencils, white chalk pencils, graphite sticks, "normal" pencils from a wide range of 4H to 9B, pencils made of all graphite and no wood (great for shading), mechanical pencils, and even a pencil that can be "washed" with a wet paint brush. All are useful for different things depending on what type of artwork I'm creating.
For another thing, I do have some duplicates. Over the years I have received pencils for birthday or Christmas gifts, or won pencil sets in art contests (such as the black set pictured to the left side). In fact I still have the very first pencil set I ever got for Christmas when I was about 8 years old (the dark blue set near the top of the picture). But because I have duplicates, none have been wearing down very quickly.
Your turn! I'd love to hear from you in the comments below. What do you collect?
